Hard to believe that June is now upon us! The sixth month of the year, meaning that we are approaching the halfway point of 2025 and we start to enter that proverbial back nine. Soon 2026 will be looming larger and larger.

It seems the older one gets, the faster the years go by. For example, when I first enrolled in college in 1986, four years seemed like an eternity. This was especially true when I realized midway through my first semester that I had made a terrible choice when it came to schools. My dad (aged 60 at the time) advised me to tough it out and not go through the process of transferring. “It’s only four years,” he said. At age 60, four years is the blink of an eye. At age 19, four years is 15 of your life. Big difference!

Advice to all of you who hate your college and think it sucks: Find a new school or new direction in life! If you have realized college is not for you, drop out and find another path in life. Do not waste another nickel on college. If, on the other hand, you just hate the school you are at because of the student body, location, whatever, find a new school! There’s no need to be miserable over things you can control, believe me!

Looking at the calendar for today, we are still not quite half-way through the year. This is the 153rd day of the year, with 212 days left to go. We don’t cross the half-way point until July 2, so we can all still be optimistic about our chances of accomplishing whatever goals we have for the year, but it’s TICK-TOCK. So get cracking!

One of the things I like to see on social media are videos from college-age kids who are transferring and aren’t ashamed of or shamed over “quitting” or “not sticking it out,” but are instead told it’s great that they saw a problem and solved it. It’s one way this generation of parents is doing better.
